Stress Management

5 Steps you can take to relieve stress

You know very well what it's like to feel stressed. It's the way you feel when you are under too much pressure, there are too many concerns and demands on you, you live an overscheduled, hurried lifestyle. Obviously there is no need for discussion about what is stress (you know what is stress because you feel stressed), or other long descriptions, because the only important thing is stress management.

Just in case you are not familiar with stress, or you think that you have no stress in your life, or you are concerned about the way you feel (could be symptoms of a serious health problem?), here is a list of stress symptoms. If you don't experience any of them ... Congratulations!

For the rest of us (we are the great majority), our main goal is how to manage it. Stress management is not an easy task.

First of all you must answer to a critical question: are you ready to reconsider your attitude to stress?...

It is Proven: adopting an active-positive attitude is your best choice. You must believe that you can fight and win. Once you are a believer you get the courage to take action.

Here are the 5 steps you can take to relieve stress:

1. Learn to recognize when you are feeling stressed

You can consult the symptoms section. Experiencing any of them is an indication that you are stressed and somebody or something irritated your reaction.

2. Find out what is causing stress in your life

Here is my personal experience: after a session of TV news (you know news after news-channel after channel), I noticed a great inner frustration. With all these deaths, accidents, disasters, etc. I realized that watching TV news was a great stressor for me.

3. Take Action

Reduce the amount of stress in your life. If possible avoid or alter the stressor. Otherwise change your reaction to stress, either accepting the stressor or adapting to the stressor.
Remember my experience above? Since then (about 8 months ago) I stopped watching TV news.

4. Take advantage of effective stress relievers

There are too many stress relievers out there. You can check the “stress relievers” section  here. Just choose a couple of them and experience the calming effect.
After stopping watching TV news, I adopted a more positive attitude. I decided to take advantage of my favorite stress reducers. I enjoy now reading my favorite books, playing games or communicating in other ways with my wife, playing my guitar, exercising.

5. Learn more about stress
